Fabcon delivers energy performance and speed for La Crosse’s 100% organic, Driftless-inspired craft distillery
With sustainability at the core of its business model, La Crosse Distilling Co. needed a building solution that supported its operational goals and environmentally conscious ethos—without compromising on efficiency or aesthetics.
Problem
Building in a bustling, established commercial corridor presented significant logistical challenges. Traditional methods such as masonry block or site-cast concrete would have disrupted neighboring businesses, prolonged the schedule, and increased costs. Beyond that, the building needed to meet rigorous performance criteria—thermal efficiency, fire resistance, and a clean, contemporary aesthetic—all within a tight footprint.
Solution
Fabcon’s VersaCore precast panels were selected to form the working backbone of the facility. Produced in Fabcon’s Savage, MN plant just 150 miles from the site, the panels were manufactured ahead of schedule and stored until the site was ready, allowing for precise, just-in-time delivery. The installation team completed the job in just three days, minimizing impact on the surrounding area. The precast envelope included more than 240 linear feet of smooth, steel form finish panels with an R-value of 28.2 and a four-hour fire rating—both essential to the functionality of the distillery.
Results
The use of structural precast allowed for an open, column-free interior that houses large-scale production equipment and streamlined workflows. The panels’ high thermal performance contributes to the facility’s geothermal-powered, energy-efficient operations, supporting the brand’s 100% certified organic mission. Visually and operationally, the building reflects the same values as the spirits it produces: local, sustainable, and crafted with integrity.
