Years of pressure from plowed snow had caused the parking structure’s spandrel panels to become misaligned, pulling apart at the seams. To restore the integrity of the two-story retail parking deck in Nashua, New Hampshire, Fabcon W2E partnered with Walker Consultants to repair and realign the panels, replace concrete deck patches, pour a new deck section, and embed structural connector plates. The project also included repairing cracks, spalling, rust stains, and replacing aging caulking. Given the active retail environment, work had to be carefully coordinated to ensure safety and minimal disruption, with snow removal required before repairs could begin.
Problem
Brick-and-mortar retail faces increasing challenges, especially in the era of online shopping. A Target parking deck in Nashua, New Hampshire, had deteriorated over time due to extreme weather conditions, snow plowing damage, and aging repairs. The structure suffered from misaligned spandrel panels, cracked Double Tee sections, and other structural issues, requiring immediate attention.
Solution
Fabcon W2E, in collaboration with Walker Consultants, assessed the damage and devised a repair plan. To minimize disruptions, the work was scheduled after the holiday season. Despite winter challenges, Fabcon W2E efficiently executed repairs, including realigning panels, installing plates, replacing caulking, epoxying cracks, and removing and replacing aging patches.
Results
In just five business days, Fabcon W2E completed all necessary repairs, restoring the parking deck’s structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. The project was completed by Friday afternoon, ensuring minimal disruption, and allowing weekend shoppers to return without inconvenience.
