Wisconsin Vision Associates achieves operational efficiency and aesthetic appeal with Fabcon precast panels
The rapid growth of Wisconsin Vision Associates necessitated a move from cramped quarters into a state-of-the-art building, designed for both functional efficiency and visual appeal. The project’s success hinged on the ability to create a structure that would meet stringent operational requirements while reflecting WVA’s commitment to quality.
Problem
WVA’s initial facility in downtown Wisconsin was hindered by logistical inefficiencies, including the lack of a loading dock, resulting in traffic congestion and delays from constant deliveries. As WVA expanded, these challenges became untenable, prompting the company to seek a more suitable location. Additionally, a structure was needed to handle a significant inventory, while maintaining a modern aesthetic and high-performance standards, especially given the harsh Wisconsin winters.
Solution
Precast concrete was chosen for its speed and versatility. Fabcon’s 12-inch VersaCore Sandwich Panels offered superior insulation, enhancing energy efficiency and contributing to the building’s potential for LEED points. Fabcon’s panels were manufactured in a controlled environment and installed in just 10 days, significantly reducing construction time and minimizing the disruption caused by harsh weather. The design, featuring a combination of tinted pigments and aggregates, gave the building a modern, clean look with a functional design for logistics and distribution.
Results
The new WVA headquarters boasts 63,000 square feet of functional space with the ability to stock a 30-day supply of products. The building’s enhanced logistics, including four loading docks, has dramatically improved efficiency. The use of Fabcon’s precast panels not only expedited the construction process but also ensured the building would withstand the elements, all while achieving a design that complements both form and function.
